Introducing Liam

Bio

Liam began playing the pipes at the age of four under the guidance of his father, Scott. In 2013, he joined The Scots School Albury Pipe Band, beginning a journey that would see him progress through the ranks to become Pipe Major in 2024.

During his time with the band, Liam enjoyed considerable success, helping the band secure the Scottish Championship, World Championship and Champion of Champions titles. Leading the band to a World Championship victory as Pipe Major is one of the defining achievements of his piping career.

Individually, some of Liam’s achievements include placing fourth in the prestigious McGregor Memorial Contest in Oban on two occasions, as well as qualifying for the McGregor Final for five consecutive years.

More recently, Liam has continued to compete in band competitions, most notably as a member of Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band, with whom he secured first place at the European Championships in 2026.
From learning the pipes at just four years old to competing and winning at the highest levels of the piping world, Liam’s journey reflects years of dedication, hard work and a passion for the instrument.

What made you learn?

“Liam’s father was his main role model and inspiration. Liam’s father played the pipes back home in Australia, and he used to say that when Liam was 3 years old he would try and make his own set of bagpipes from spare parts and march around the living room trying to be like him”
