Introducing Ross

Bio

Ross fully immersed himself within the piping fraternity through subscription with the well known Robert Mathieson’s Polkemmet Colliery band in 1982 at the ripe old age of 16. Prior to this endeavor, Ross played in Grade 4 with Forth and District Pipe Band where he achieved multiple honours in the competition field. These bands became the springboard to where Ross eventually went, to compete in multiple bands thereafter within all grading levels, even within the highly acclaimed Grade 1 setting. Ross now plays within a pipe band in West Lothian, Scotland. Here he plays for the sole enjoyment and love of that beautiful instrument and performs to large crowds up and down the country.

Some of Ross’ greatest achievements include; performing at the Lorient Interceltic Festival in Brittany, France; entertaining audiences for big football matches at Hampden Park, home of the Scottish National Football Team; playing live on French National Television; and performing at the Breton Military Tattoo.

What made you learn?

“Boghall and Bathgate Pipe Band were advertising for learners back in 1977 and Ross’ mum took him to their practice night to meet Bob Martin, the well known Pipe Major at the time. Ross never looked back”
